Happy Sloth Health & Fitness
Why the Happy Sloth? I believe that ongoing wellness requires a slow, steady approach… kinda like the sloth. Yoga with the Happy Sloth won’t have you bending yourself into a pretzel (although you can do that if you like), but you will build your strength, balance, flexibility and mindfulness. We won’t get there overnight and some days you may feel like you've taken a step back, but I’ll be there with you every step of the way. Here at the Happy Sloth I want to teach people how to create a healthy lifestyle through gentle yet powerful movement, healthful eating, and taking time for yourself and the things you love. I hope when you step off the mat or walk away from our conversations you feel refreshed and have tips to help you on your journey to long-lasting health.
My most popular classes are a combination of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga. With Hatha yoga emphasis is placed on controlling the breath, doing gentle stretches, and building strength throughout the body. In Vinyasa yoga you flow directly from one pose to the next and the flow is coordinated with your breath. There’s never any pressure to do more than your body can handle. After completing a yoga practice with me you’ll feel a sense of release in your joints and muscles, and a sense of calmness in your mind.
Meet your instructor
Hi! I'm Penny Keller, the owner of Happy Sloth Health & Fitness. I'm a certified Group Fitness Instructor and a 200-hour certified yoga instructor. I started practicing yoga in 2003, taking classes off and on until I started practicing consistently in 2018. It was that consistent practice that made me want to share yoga with others and led me to enroll in yoga teacher training. I started teaching yoga in December 2020 after having completed the training. One of the things I enjoy about yoga, besides the physical benefits it offers my body, is the inner calm it brings me. Whether I’m doing my practice after a hectic day at work or early in the morning before I get busy with the day, as soon as I step onto the mat my body starts to relax, my mind stops racing, and I know the only thing that matters in that moment is this time I’m taking for self-care and self-love. Whether it's an hour-long practice or 10 minutes, yoga helps me clear my mind and move in the way my mind and body need me to move that day. And that allows me to come away with a calm, peaceful, and loving attitude that makes it a little easier to manage life’s challenges. Besides yoga, I love to spend time gardening, cooking, reading, and enjoying music. Won’t you join me on this journey to a healthy lifestyle?
“Penny is an AWESOME yoga instructor! As a fellow instructor, I have worked alongside Penny in class. She always offers a variety of poses as well as modifications for every level of yoga. I have also enjoyed being a participant in her class. She is a total professional with just the right mix of body, mind & spirit experience. Her calm demeanor and soft voice are soothing to the soul! ~ Terri R..”
“Penny is a skilled instructor with a calming presence. I always look forward to her classes. ~ Laura W.”
“Penny has been my yoga instructor several times. She has a gentle way about her and a very soothing voice, but don’t let that fool you, she does an excellent class with stretches and balance that will leave you sweating. She hits all body parts that her class needs. I always feel so much better when I have finished her class. She is a wonderful instructor. ~ Linda P.”
